We’re thrilled to feature Sophie Click as our January Rider of the Month here at Magnolia Ridge! With 20 years of experience in the equestrian world, Sophie has shown exceptional dedication and passion for Eventing. Her partnership with her horse, Quinn, is nothing short of inspiring, and their journey is a testament to the power of patience, trust, and hard work.
Meet Quinn: The Heart of the Partnership
Sophie has been riding for two decades, beginning at the age of five with the guidance of Joanna Fowler at Brackenhollow in Redmond. Over the years, her love for horses has grown into a lifelong commitment to Eventing, where she has consistently pushed herself to new levels of competition. Nothing is as exciting or rewarding as 3-day Eventing, according to Sophie.
Tarantino 54 aka Quinn, her Holsteiner/Selle-Francais gelding, has been a key part of that journey. Imported from the Czech Republic, Quinn has a unique blend of intelligence, athleticism, and a kind soul. Despite having never evented before Sophie acquired him in 2017, Quinn quickly became her trusted partner on the Eventing circuit. Sophie is now working toward the next big milestone—a 5* event within the next 18 months. What stands out most about Quinn is his thoughtful and kind nature. He’s known for being a little cautious with new people, but once he’s earned their trust, he’s incredibly loyal and easy to work with.

A Partnership Built on Trust
One of the most memorable moments in their partnership came during their first Advanced level competition. The cross-country ride was a turning point, giving Sophie a newfound sense of confidence in Quinn. “He gave me such a great feeling on cross-country,” Sophie recalls. “It was one of those moments where everything clicked, and I knew that we were truly a team.”
Although she has participated in a variety of competitions throughout her career, competing at Land Rover Kentucky stands out as a major highlight. Competing in the 4*S division with her other horse, Rocky, she was able to measure herself against some of the world’s top riders. “It was an incredible experience to compete alongside and watch some of the best in the world,” Sophie says, reflecting on the event.
Goals for the Future
Looking ahead, Sophie is focused on her short-term goal of competing in the 5* at Land Rover Kentucky this year and being competitive at the highest level. Long-term, they’re working toward a successful ride at the Maryland 5* this fall. Her approach to training with Quinn has always been thoughtful, emphasizing the importance of patience and consistency. She finds that incorporating hacks before and after rides is a great way to build a bond with their horse while giving both of them a break from the intense focus required for competition.
The Community at Magnolia Ridge
Being part of the Magnolia Ridge family has been instrumental in Shophie’s growth as both a rider and a trainer. “What I love most about Magnolia Ridge is the camaraderie. It’s a community that truly supports one another,” says Sophie. Having access to exceptional footing, a beautiful arena, and a consistent training environment has been key for both her and her students.
“There’s nothing like starting the day here, early in the morning, when it’s sunny and peaceful,” Sophie continues. “You can hear the fountain while riding indoors, and it really sets the tone for a calm, focused ride.”
Words of Wisdom
Throughout her journey, Sophie has received valuable advice that continues to guide her. “The best advice I’ve received is to never compare yourself to others and to take your time in training,” she shared. “The long way is the right way. And always listen to your horse—it’s the best way to truly progress.”
Her perspective on the horse-rider relationship is equally insightful: “What I love most is that you have to communicate without words. Once you can speak the same language as your horse, anything is possible.”
As Sophie continues her journey, we’re excited to follow her progress and cheer her on as she and Quinn work toward their goals. Her dedication, focus, and love for her horses make her an inspiration to all of us here at Magnolia Ridge. If you have never watched an upper level cross country competition, I encourage you to do so….what these riders and horses do takes so much skill, bravery, and grit!
Congratulations, Sophie, on being our Rider of the Month! We’re proud to have you as part of our community, and we can’t wait to see what comes next for you and Quinn this season!
